Mr. Happy is in his first year as Director of Bands at Nashville High School. Hailing from Hot Springs, he received his B.M. in Music Education at the University of Memphis and has worked extensively with marching programs in the Arkansas and Tennessee area, including Lakeside High School, Lake Hamilton High School, and Arlington High School. As a saxophonist, he has performed in Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma, and has commissioned works by multiple composers. When he isn't teaching, Mr. Happy performs extensively, either as a soloist, with chamber groups, or as the principal saxophonist for the Hot Springs Concert Band. Mr. Happy's teaching responsibilities include directing the Wind Ensemble and the Marching Band, assisting with the Beginning Band, and teaching Music Appreciation.
Ms. Cordero is entering her first year as the Junior High Director at Nashville. Originally from Pottsville, she is a graduate of Arkansas Tech University where she received her Bachelor's in Music Education. She also brings experience from Dardanelle School District, where she worked with their band programs. Ms. Cordero's teaching responsibilities include directing the Junior High Band, teaching Choir, and assisting with the Beginning Band and High School programs.
Mr. Smith is the former Director of Bands at Searcy High School, where he taught for twenty-seven years before becoming the school's principal (a position he held for another twelve years until his retirement). A graduate of Arkansas Tech University with both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in music education, Mr. Smith has also served as president of the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association, as well as the Arkansas Bandmasters Association. He has been named Arkansas Bandmaster of the Year and has served as a clinician for bands in Tennessee, South Carolina, and throughout Arkansas. He also serves as Executive Director and Associate Conductor of the Hot Springs Concert Band.
Mr. Werfelmann is currently pursuing a degree in music education at the University of Arkansas, and has extensive experience performing as a percussionist in both concert and marching settings. He has performed with Resistance Indoor Percussion and the Razorback Marching Band, as well as the UofA Wind Ensemble. Mr. Werfelmann's responsibilities include instructing the percussion section and writing music for the Marching Band.
Emersen is a Nashville Band alumni, and is currently pursuing a degree in psychology at Arkansas State University. She is also a member of the Sound of the Natural State Color Guard. She has an extensive history in dance, color guard, and instrumental music, including performing in three bowl game halftime shows and spinning for a cumulative seven seasons. Her responsibilities include instructing the color guard and writing choreography for them.
Holly is a senior at the University of Memphis, where she is pursuing a degree in Dance and Musical Theatre. For the last four years, she has been a member of the Mighty Sound of the South marching band both as a marcher and a member of the color guard. She has also been a featured dancer for the University of Memphis Winter Guard team. Holly brings over twenty years of dance experience to the program, with her responsibilities including writing choreography for the Nashville Marching Band and assisting with the color guard.
